Due to this, there are a ton of options for photographers these days who are looking to add some ND filters to their collection of camera accessories and the increase in competition in the space has helped to increase quality. Gone are the days when the old guard brands such as Hoya and Tiffen pretty much control the lens filter market, you are not spoiled for choice with some great budget-friendly options available too.

One brand that is expanding into more and more camera accessory niches is Zomei and their lens filter range has received a ton of attention over the last year or so due to their low price tag and great performance. The reputation of the Zomei lens filters just keeps on getting better and better amongst the community as time goes on and their customer base just keeps on increasing. That said though, although the Zomei ND Filter range is a great budget-friendly set of filters, we would highly recommend that our readers check out the Gobe ND Filter range as in our opinion, they are the best option by far at this price point in the market.

Although we absolutely love the Zomei tripod range and often recommend it to our readers, when it comes to entry-level lens filters, at the time of writing at least, nothing beats the Gobe range in our opinion. Unlike Zomei, Gobe is focused on nothing but producting the best quality lens filters for the lowest possible price point possible. This has resulted in their filters earning one of the best reputations going due to their entry-level price tag but intermediate-level performance.

That said though, we will still be going over our full Zomei ND filter review to help any of our readers who are dead set on going with the Zomei filter range. Their variable ND filters are still solid and probably come in second place at the time of writing with only the Gobe range beating them in our opinion. They offer some great performance and allow you to merge motion and time with ease to capture blurred water, control your depth of field, reduce the visibility of any moving objects in the frame or to extend the time of exposures.

Performance And Functionality

One of the main reasons that we feel that both the Gobe and Zomei ranges of ND filters have managed to earn such a large customer base in such a short period of time is that they absolutely blow the compeating filters from the more established brands out of the water at this price point in the market. In our opinion, their performance is superior and they offer photographs better bang for their buck helping to attract customers and this has lead to this almost exponential viral growth that we have seen over the last year or two.

Although Zomei does offer some fixed neutral density filters in their range, we would always recommend their variable ND Filters over their fixed filters. This offers the advantage of being able to use one single variable filter to get the performance of multiple fixed filters. This helps to keep your costs down as well as the overall size and weight of your lens filter kit too. If you are working in a photography niche where you are required to travel around on a regular basis, this can help make your life so much easier and you just have to check for one filter rather than three to five additional filters.

The majority of the filters in the Zomei variable ND filter range are ND2-ND400 allowing for quick and easy light reduction between two and eight stops. When used at the minimum setting, the filter passes around on third of the regular light available that is equal to 1.5 stops on your aperture. As you rotate up through the range this increases to its maximum of allowing just 1/400th of the light in a scene to pass. This is the same as eight full stops on your aperture and offers some great control over the light allowing you to use super slow shutter speeds for those longer exposures.

The Zomei variable ND filter range is currently available in the following thread sizes that cover some of the more popular lens threads as well as a few of the rarer thread sizes too:-

  • 40.5mm
  • 49mm
  • 52mm
  • 55mm
  • 58mm
  • 62mm
  • 67mm
  • 72mm
  • 77mm
  • 82mm

If the required thread size for your lens of choice is not listed then we would highly recommend that you check out the Gobe ND Filter range as they offer a larger number of thread sizes with better overall performance than the Zomei range in our opinion.

Considering the low price tag of the Zomei ND filter range as well as the solid performance and build quality their filters offer, it is easy to see how they have taken such a large market share from the traditional lens filter brands in such a short time. On top of this, many of the photographers who use the Zomei ND filter range have also published their own independent reviews sharing their experiences with the filters. In our opinion, if you have a couple of minutes spare some of those reviews are well worth skimming over as they offer a solid insight into the performance of the range from photographers who have used them in pretty much every situation you can think of.

User Interface And Control System

Zomei uses a very simple and straight forward control user interface with their variable ND filters to make the whole system as seamless and easy to use as humanly possible. As these ND filters are in the entry-level price point, a decent number of the photographers purchasing them are likley to be entry-level photographers. With Zomei knowing their target market well after building up a solid reputation as a brand that produce entry-level price point products that offer intermediate-level performance they know many people purchasing these filters may never have used a variable filter before. This is why they have maximized the ease of use of the rotary control on the filter to allow anyone to pick it up and work out how to best operate it within seconds.

Simply rotate the edge of the lens filter to control the light that is able to pass through towards your camera sensor. The markings on the edge of the filter clearly mark off everything from +1 to +8 stop values allowing you to accurately adjust the filter as required. Even if you have never used a variable ND filter before you should easily be able to adjust the Zomei range to meet the needs of your situation. For example, switching from something like f/4 from f/8 when you need a sharper image takes seconds. This lets you constantly tweak the performance of the filter as needed without having to waste time.

Now, there is a common issue with all ND filters, even those up at the premium price points where every now and then, the color of the image may appear to be either too warm or too cold. To our knowledge, the exact cause of this phenomenon is not known and as we said, it plagues even the higher price point filters as well as these cheaper Zomei ones. Although rare, if this does happen to you simply adjust the white balance as needed and the issue should correct within seconds allowing you to go back to capture your photographs.

Build Quality And Design

Just because these Zomei ND Filters come in at such a low price point does not mean that they have a sub-par build quality. We have already touched on how in our opinion, they offer intermediate-level performance and we also feel the same about their build quality and design too. Zomei has gone with the increasingly popular ultra-slim design to ensure that their variable ND filter range is as small and compact as possible making them as easy to add to your camera accessory bag as possible.

In addition to this, the filters are very lightweight allowing you to easily add them to your camera accessory bag without having to add much weight. This not only helps you keep your accessory bag under any weight restrictions if you have to travel via plane on a regular basis but also minimized the effect that they have when mounted to your lens. Time was that even just a few years back that the entry-level price point filters were pretty heavy and you could feel the additional weight when in use. If you were doing a bunch of run and gun handheld photography this could add to the fatigue on your arms due to the additional weight but in this day and age, it is not an issue due to the lighter filters.

Zomei has also put its ND filter range through a double coating process to help increase the image quality that you are able to capture when you have the filter mounted to your lens. This is one area where the compeating Gobe ND Filter range absolutely blows the Zomei filters out of the water. Gobe uses a sixteen layering process to not only increase the performance and image quality provided but also increase the toughness of the filter too.

Although not the primary purpose of the Zomei ND filter range, they can also serve as a pseudo-UV filter to add an additional layer of protection to your front lens element. The image above shows how effective a decent UV filter can be if you drop your lens by accident. As you can see in the image, the lens filter is destroyed but the actual lens element under it is fine. The Zomei filters offer additional protection and depending on how much punishment the filter takes, it may help to protect your lens elements if involved in an accident.

Zomei has also used metal threads on their filter range too and although the vast majority of lens filter brands, even in the entry-level price bracket do this now, we do still see the odd brand trying to sneak plastic threads onto their products. The metal threads like the ones on the Zomei ND range not only make it easier to mount and unmount the filter from your lens as required but also helps to prevent cross-threading. Depending on the issue, cross-threading can not only damage the threads on your lens but potentially jam your filter in place while mounted and it a common issue with filters with plastic threads.

The final point that we want to make is that the Zomei filter range also have an outer set of metal threads too. Depending on what you are doing this can allow you to mount your lens cap to your lens without having to take your lens filter off to save your time. Additionally, the outer threads can also be used to mount a UV or CPL filter to your lens in addition to your ND filter too. All in all, we feel that Zomei has done an excellent job of building such a great variable ND filter that offers this level of performance with this build quality without having to hike the price tag up.

Our Verdict

That concludes our Zomei ND filter review and as we mentioned earlier in the article, we feel that the Gobe ND Filter range is better than the Zomei ND Filter range while coming in at a very similar price point. We would highly recommend that our readers consider going with the Gobe range due to their better performance and build quality for a few extra dollars. That said though, if you are set on going with the Zomei range then their ND filters can still make a solid addition to your collection of camera accessories and help to improve the image quality that you can capture.

3 Of The Best 35mm Lenses For Pentax K1000 Cameras! https://gimbalgarage.com/35mm-lens-for-pentax-k1000/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=35mm-lens-for-pentax-k1000 Fri, 27 Dec 2019 13:23:47 +0000 https://gimbalgarage.com/?p=3092 When it comes to vintage cameras, it can be a total nightmare to source decent quality lenses that are still in a serviceable condition while also being cost-efficient. Not only have many of these old school lenses broken or been damaged enough to provide poor image quality but many of them that do remain are often sitting unused in a spare room making finding them for sale a total nightmare.

Now, we know that many photographers and videographers do tend to frequent thrift stores but again, this can limit the pool of available potential lenses to a very small area so we would always recommend that you go with an online vendor to offer maximum exposure and drastically increase the odds of you finding the lens you are looking for. Although we feel that Amazon have definatley taken the lead when it comes to the more modern camera lenses, in our opinion at least, eBay is definatley leading the way when it comes to the vintage lenses and can provide a quick and easy way to source vintage lenses for as cheap as possible.

That said, we have noticed more and more people reaching out with each passing month and asking for advice on the best 35mm lens for Pentax k1000 camera bodies so we are going to be focusing on three 35mm lenses for today’s article. Our hope is that we will be able to help any of our readers looking to pick up a new 35mm lens for their k1000 while helping them avoid some of the common problems photographers run into while hunting for a vintage lens.

Now, as we touched on above, eBay is definatley the way to go in our opinion and we have seen some suitable lenses go for as little as $20 on the platform! That said though, this is going to come down to luck so we have settled on three different lenses below that can commonly be found on eBay that are popular amongst k1000 users. That said though, before we go any further and get into what you should be looking for, we just quickly want to go over one lens type that we see Pentax k1000 users purchase that should be avoided.

Although the k1000 is a Pentax K mount camera body that will mount the majority of the K mount lenses on the market right now, the Pentax K mount DA range WILL NOT WORK with the Pentax k1000. In addition to a small number of other things, this is due to the fact that the lens range does not have an aperture ring and the k1000 not having any internal aperture control to use the lens.

Thankfully though, the Pentax DA range is clearly marked as shown in the image above makes it easy to avoid accidentally adding one to your collection of camera accessories when you know to avoid them. We just wanted to point this out to our readers before going any further as we have seen countless k1000 users fall foul to this and accidentally purchase a K mount lens that will not work with their camera body.

We will not be moving on to take a look at the three 35mm camera lenses that we do recommend for your Pentax k1000. We will be covering them in order of what we feel can provide you with the best possible image quality and have options available for all budgets too.

The SMC Pentax 35mm

First up, we have the SMC Pentax 35mm that we feel is probably going to be your best option when looking for a 35mm lens for the Pentax k1000 as it offers excellent image quality, great control, and mounts natively to your k1000 camera body. It is one of, if not the most popular option from the 35mm range for the k1000 at the time of writing and is often available for purchase on sites such as eBay allowing you to quickly and easily add the lens to your collection.

Now, there are actually two variants of the lens available with different apertures and price tags so there will have to be a little decision making on your part. First up, we have the SMC Pentax 35mm F3.5 that is the cheaper and more common variant of the lens they are readily available and often have a number of sellers offering them. They offer some great image quality for your Pentax k1000 for with the 35mm focal range and are a great little lens to add to your camera accessories.

If luck is on your side then they can sometimes be found for under $75 making them an absolute bargain and well worth picking up in our opinion. That said, they are usually priced in the sub-$100 range and are still worth purchasing at that price point if they are available.

Next up we have the second variant of the lens, the SMC Pentax 35mm F2 that is probably the best possible 35mm lens that you will be able to find for your k1000. It has the better aperture offering optimal low light performance and the best image quality of all of the featured lenses. On the flip side of this though, they are rarer than the f/3.5 variant of the lens while also having a higher price tag. That said though, the image quality is better so if you have the budget available then they can make an excellent addition to your camera accessories.

The SMC Pentax 35mm F2 will usually be found for under $150 but if luck is on your side then you may be able to find them for under $100. Due to the popularity of the lens, finding them for under $100 not only presents a great bargain for you but can also potentially be relisted and sold quickly at a higher price point to turn a profit.

The Asahi Takumar 35mm f/3.5

Next up we have one of the most popular 35mm lenses for the Pentax K1000 and usually the cheapest, the Asahi Takumar 35mm f/3.5. Although the image quality of the lens is nowhere near what the SMC Pentax 35mm covered above is able to provide for you, it is a solid option and very budget-friendly. The Asahi Takumar 35mm f/3.5 can sometimes be found for as little as $20 making it a solid option to add to your camera accessories but realistically is usually around the $40 price point.

Now, although the cheap price tag may seem attractive, the Asahi Takumar 35mm f/3.5 is an M42 mount lens rather than a native K mount. This means that you will also have to purchase an M42 to K mount convertor that can usually be found for under $5 allowing you to mount the lens directly to your Pentax k1000.

That said though, not only does the Asahi Takumar 35mm f/3.5 have a lower image quality than the SMC Pentax 35mm but the converters can often lower this even further. This is why we would always recommend that you consider the SMC Pentax 35mm over the Asahi Takumar 35mm f/3.5 but if you are on a tight budget or like that retro, vintage image quality style then it can be a solid 35mm lens for your k1000.

The Chinar 35mm f/2.8

The final 35mm lens for the Pentax k1000 that we want to be covering is the Chinar 35mm f/2.8 but in all honesty, we would recommend that our readers go with either of the options above over the Chinar 35mm f/2.8. Even back when the lens was originally released it had issues with its build quality meaning that they have aged poorly and not stood up to the punishment they have taken over the years well.

Although a fully serviceable Chinar 35mm f/2.8 in good quality can be a great 35mm lens for your K1000 and provide you with some great image quality for cheap, they are an absolute nightmare to find due to the flimsy build quality. They can usually be found for under $50 but be sure to double-check the condition of the lens to ensure that it has been looked after well.

If you are lucky, some of the more reputable vendors on eBay who sell fully refurbished lenses may have them in stock (click here to check for current availability) presenting an excellent buying opportunity. Not only does this offer you the peace of mind that the lens has been checked and has been fully refurbished but it also usually comes with some form of refurbished warranty from the vendor if you do run into issues with the lens after your purchase.

Wrapping It up

So there you have it, we know that the Pentax k1000 is still a popular vintage camera body with a dedicated user base who love their camera. With the 35mm focal range being so popular and versatile too its not surprising that we see so many people reaching out for 35mm lenses for the k1000 either. We just hope that our advice has helped some of our readers source a great little lens that you can get out and about and capture some solid photographs with.

Again, we would highly recommend that you go with the SMC Pentax 35mm over either of the other two lenses due to its superior image quality but the budget that you have available, as well as your look with the sellers listing the lenses, will dictate the options available to you. Good luck in your search and we hope that you are able to source a great little 35mm lens for your k1000!

The Best Real Estate Lens For Sony A6000 Cameras! https://gimbalgarage.com/real-estate-lens-for-sony-a6000/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=real-estate-lens-for-sony-a6000 Sun, 08 Dec 2019 17:13:10 +0000 https://gimbalgarage.com/?p=2784 The Sony a6000 is probably the most popular mirrorless camera body on the market right now and it has an absolutely massive core customer base that use it as their go-to camera body of choice in a number of niches. As you can see from our comparison table above, we have three different recommended camera lenses for your a6000 that the community tend to use for real estate photography. First up we have the Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 and although it is cheap and we see people using it, in our opinion it really should be avoided for use in the real estate niche. Its 16mm minimum focal length is not ideal and can make the rooms you are photographing look smaller than the other two featured lenses.

That said though, some a6000 bundles have the lens included meaning some of our readers may not have it. If you are on a tight budget or taking part in real estate photography as a favor to a friend then you can probably get by with the Sony 16-50mm. That said though if you are a professional real estate agent and you will be taking photographs of properties on a regular basis then either of the other two featured lenses is superior options.

Next up we have our primary lens recommendation, the Rokinon 12mm that we feel is the best option for our readers. It has a low price tag considering the image quality that it produces and its 12mm focal range offers an excellent field of view for your photographs. The wide-angle lens is able to make some rooms look bigger than they actually are and potentially help you get that initial lead for a potential buyer.

The Rokinon 12mm has an outstanding reputation amoungst the community that just keeps on getting stronger and stronger as time goes on. It is such a versatile little prime lens that is very easy to use and its aperture is perfect for real estate making it the obvious option that we would highly recommend our readers consider.

Next up we have the Sony 10-18mm F4 that is an expensive professional level lens that is an excellent bit of kit. If you are an established professional level photographer working in multiple niches where this lens can provide value then it is a no brainer to add it to your camera accessories. That said though if you are a real estate agent who will only be taking photographs of properties you are trying to sell then the price tag is too high for what you are actually getting.

This is why we would recommend the Rokinon 12mm over the Sony 10-18mm F4 as it is much cheaper and offers almost identical image quality when it comes to real estate without the huge price tag. For the rest of the article, we are going to be going over the various features that the Rokinon 12mm possesses that make it the ideal option and not be covering either of the other two featured lenses any further.

Performance And Functionality

One of the main reasons that we would recommend the Rokinin 12mm lens so highly for any type of real estate photography with your Sony a6000 is its excellent 12mm focal range that allows you to capture the rooms of your properties in all their glory. This can work to your advantage by making rooms look large and due to being a prime lens as well as its f/2.0 lens aperture your photography look lighter, brighter, and sharper even in low light conditions making rooms look vibrant.

All of this plays towards your first goal in real estate of hooking a potential buyer and getting that initial lead or contact for you to work your magic. With more and more of initial contact in the real state game being made online, ensuring that you are capturing the properties in the best possible image quality is a no brainer and the Rokinon 12mm can help you do just this.

The lens has also been fully optimized for the best possible optical image quality with a field of view of up to 110 degrees. This ultra-wide frame just keeps on scoring points for the lens in the real estate photography niche as it allows you to capture more of the property in the same image with the highest possible image quality. The lens also has a minimum focusing distance of just under eight inches too and although this will not work to your advantage for capturing the rooms of the property due to the range, it can help with any potential close up images you need to show things in detail.

Although this will depend on the property that you are photographing, the Rokinon nano crystal coating technology that has been added to the lens elements of the 12mm lens helps reduce reflections without the need to use a lens filter. If the room you are photographing has a large number of surfaces that reflect light, this can really play into your hands as it can remove the potential reflection that may act as a distraction for any potential lead.

On the flip side of this though, some people may want to use a lens filter for various task while photographing the homes they are trying to sell and the Rokinon 12mm comes with a 67mm lens filter thread as standard. Due to the 67mm thread size being popular, you are easily able to source lens filters for your specific situation with ease. We always recommend the Gobe 67mm UV filter as a minimum as it helps to protect your front lens element during use and while in transit without having any effect on the image quality that you are able to capture.

When you take all of this into account it is easy to see why the lens is so popular amongst the Sony a6000 and wider Sony Alpha using community. It is extremely versatile and offers outstanding image quality for its price point. It’s not surprising that so many photographers who use the lens have opted to post their own glowing independent reviews for the lens that are well worth reading.

If you have some time spare then those reviews are well with checking out as they offer some great insight into the performance and image quality of the lens. They have all been posted by independent photographers to share their thoughts and experiences with the lens with the larger community.

User Interface And Control System

We are fully aware that many of the people who will be looking to purchase a decent little real estate lens for their Sony a6000 will not be professional photographers and potentially have very little experience with digital cameras. Due to this, we made that the ease of use factor was one of the main things that we looked for in our recommended lens and the Rokinon 12mm is pretty much as easy to use as they come.

Although it is a manual focus lens, the system is as easy to use as possible and the actual manual focus ring is very responsive and easy to rotate as required. It has a slight resistance to it that allows you to easily and accurately adjust your focus levels as required within seconds. Some compeating camera lenses, even at this price point still use the freewheel system with zero resistance on their manual focus ring and it can be a little annoying to use, thankfully though, this is not an issue with the Rokinon 12mm.

On top of this, Rokinon has also ensured that the focus system on the lens works without having to lengthen or rotating the forward lens element on the lens too ensuring that the whole system is as easy as use as possible. If you are a real estate agent rather than a photographer, this really does play right into your hands, especially if you have never used a detachable lens before as you can learn to get high-quality images within minutes. This all just keeps mounting up and scoring the Rokinon 12mm even more points over the competition.

As you would expect at this price point in the market, the lens comes with a metal lens mount to ensure that you are able to quickly and easily mount and unmount it from your Sony a6000 as required. Some entry-level, cheap lenses still use a plastic mounting system and over time the plastic can warp in shape and potentially cause your camera problems but this is not an issue with mental lens mounts like the one on the Rokinon 12mm.

Build Quality And Design

We absolutely love the build quality on this lens and are surprised that Rokinon has managed to produce such a small, compact, robust, and lightweight lens that can provide you with this level of image quality without having to hike its price tag up. Everything has been perfectly designed and put together with care to ensure that the lens is tough enough to last you for many years to come without issue.

The lens element structure is based on twelve individual glass elements that are split into ten different groups with six diaphragm blades as well as three high precision lens elements too. This is why the lens has such a great focal length while offering excellent image quality during use, even if you are using it in rooms with poor lighting.

We really can’t think of anything on the lens that we would change when it comes to its build quality or design as we feel it is actually a little underpriced as it is considering what you actually get for your money. All in all, Rokinon has done an excellent job of putting the lens together and we are very impressed with what they have achieved.

Our Verdict

That concludes our article sharing our thoughts on what we feel is the best real estate lens for Sony a6000 cameras on the market. As we mentioned in our comparison table section, there are some other lenses that can be used for real estate photography but in our opinion, the Rokinon 12mm offers the best mixture between image quality and price point and can make an excellent addition to your collection of camera accessories.

As we touched on earlier in the article, there are an absolute ton of independent reviews of the lens online that are worth reading if you are yet to make your mind up. They offer a solid insight into what you can expect from the Rokinon 12mm and share some external thoughts and opinions on its performance.

The Best Fisheye Lens For Sony A6000 Cameras! https://gimbalgarage.com/fisheye-lens-for-sony-a6000/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=fisheye-lens-for-sony-a6000 Sun, 01 Dec 2019 14:11:00 +0000 https://gimbalgarage.com/?p=2622 There is no doubt that the Sony a6000 and the rest of the mirrorless cameras in the Sony Alpha range are some of the most popular camera bodies out there. Not only do they have a massive share of the market but over the years, they have managed to earn an excellent reputation for themselves. Due to having such a large customer base of photographers, videographers, and vloggers, we often see people reaching out for assistance with various questions based around different accessories for the Sony a6000.

After seeing a steady stream of people reaching out for advice on fisheye lenses for the a6000, we have decided to make it the subject of today’s article. We are hoping that our article will be able to help any of our readers who own the Sony a6000 or any other camera bodies from the Sony Alpha range and are looking to add a fisheye lens to their collection of camera accessories.

Fisheye photography is increasing in popularity due to it allowing you to capture your subject or location with the unique fisheye feel. If you are a professional-level photographer then adding a fisheye lens to your collection expands the services you can offer your clients, if you are a vlogger or social media influencer then you can use it to try and help your content stand out from the competition.

That said, when it comes to the best fisheye lens for Sony a6000 we feel that the Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 that can sometimes be seen under the Samyang branding is far out ahead of the competition. Any of our regular readers may know that we are massive fans of the Rokinon lens range and actually feel that their lineup is underrated.

Their 8mm fisheye lens is perfect for your Sony a6000 and has managed to grow a massive customer base for itself since its release. With the lens having such a large customer base as well as offering some of the best fisheye performance out there, it is not surprising that it has managed to earn itself an outstanding reputation with photographers that just keeps getting better as time goes on.

That said, if you are on a tight budget or just looking to try your hand at fisheye photography as more of a hobby then the Meike 6.5 mm f/2.0 can offer some solid fisheye performance with a lower price tag. Although the Rokinon is much better for professional-level gigs, the Meike has a decent reputation but does have some slight issues with chromatic aberration that holds it back.

Also, before going any further into our review, we just want to point out that there are two variants of the Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 on the market that come with the Sony E mount. The first generation lens is solid and offers some great image quality but still retails for the same price as the second-generation variant of the lens. All links on this page will take you to the second generation of the lens with the improved optics and better build quality. If you do choose to pick the Rokinon 8mm from a local retailer then be sure to confirm that you are getting the second generation of the lens.

Performance And Functionality

As you would expect from a lens with such an excellent reputation, the Rokinon 8mm offers some of the best performance and functionality that you are able to get at this price bracket while delivering some professional-level image quality. Being a prime lens with a fixed focal length of 8mm it allows you to easily capture some excellent fisheye photographs with your Sony a6000 and we have a few examples of photographs to share with you below that have been captured using the lens.

The lens has a minimum focusing distance of one foot meaning that you shouldn’t have any problems when using the lens either. Due to the nature of fisheye photography, you rarely want the main subject of your photography close to your camera as you want as much of the background and surroundings in the frame as possible. This means that although the minimum focal distance is a little larger than normal, it does not matter due to the primary usage of the lens being fisheye photography.

The photography above has been captured using the Rokinon 8mm, and as you can see, it does an excellent job of capturing Times Square in all of its glory with its great fisheye effect. You can see just how sharp the lens is as well as its excellent ability to perform very well in mixed lighting conditions and ensure you are able to capture optimal image quality at all times too.

On top of this, the sample photographs above serve as an excellent example of how the Rokinon 8mm is able to capture bright, mixed colors in the same image with ease. As we touched on earlier with our a budget-friendly recommendation for a fisheye lens for your Sony a6000, the Meike 6.5 mm, some cheaper fisheye lenses can have issues with both chromatic aberration as well as accurately capturing the colors correctly while providing the fisheye effect.

Thankfully, this is not a problem for the Rokinon 8mm and it captures everything as you see it in the sharpest possible detail. This makes the lens ideal for use in a large number of niches where that fisheye lens effect can be used to add that extra layer of depth to help add some additional excitement to the photograph. It is just as useful for wedding photography as it is for a street art photographer and everything in between.

As you would expect from a lens with an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/2.2, the Rokinon 8mm performs very well in low light conditions as well as at night. It has a proven ability to be used as an Astrophotography lens while still providing its unique fisheye effect as seen in the image above that was captured using the Rokinon 8mm.

As you can see from the sample photograph, the lens is absolutely excellent at capturing long exposures of the sky at night, star trails, and various other astrophotography tasks too. Although you may never use the lens in this capacity, we just wanted to point out that the functionality and excellent performance is there on the off chance you find yourself in a situation where you can take advantage of it.

One thing that we would like to point out is that the Rokinon 8mm does not have any form of built-in image stabilization technology at all. Although this should not be an issue if you are only wanting to use the lens for photography with your Sony a6000, this can be an issue if you want to use it for videography without a tripod. That said though, there are plenty of excellent gimbals that are suitable for the Sony a6000 including the Zhiyun Weebill S. We have a dedicated article going onto the best gimbals for the a6000 that may be helpful if you are looking to purchase a gimbal for your camera too.

Although the Rokinon 8mm may be a little pricey depending on what you need your fisheye lens for, we feel that it does offer some of the best fisheye image quality available for the Sony a6000. It is not surprising that the lens has managed to become so popular so quickly within the community and earn so many great third-party reviews from other photographers who use it as their go-to fisheye lens of choice.

User Interface And Control System

Now, you have to keep in mind that the Rokinon 8mm is a manual focus lens and offers no autofocus capabilities at all so everything is done manually. That said though, the manual focus ring on the lens is very smooth and easy to rotate as required making your life as easy as possible when adjusting your focus levels. On top of this, the manual focus ring also has a nice level of resistance when rotating it to allow you to turn the ring accurately as needed.

The manual aperture control is also extremely easy to adjust as required to allow you to tweak the aperture settings of your lens as required to meet the needs of your session. If you have only just purchased your a6000 after coming from using smartphones, action cameras, or point and shoot cameras and have never used a detachable lens before, the whole process is extremely simple and the lens is as easy to control as it possibly could be. We are confident that anyway who can operate the a6000 will be able to quickly pick up the simple system that Rokinon uses to get optimal image quality quickly.

All in all, Rokinon has done an excellent job of putting the 8mm f/2.8 together and making the interface as simple and straight forward as possible. It performs flawlessly and when rotating the manual rings does not stick or jam-like some of the lower price point fisheye lenses on the market can.

Build Quality And Design

Another area where the Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 excels over the competition is in its build quality. Not only is the lens very small and lightweight but it is also extremely robust and able to take plenty of bumps during use or while in your photography kit bag during transit. The forward lens element is also scratch-resistant too ensuring that your new fisheye lens will last you for many years to come without having issues.

The lens is constructed of eleven individual elements separated into eight different groups to ensure that the user gets the best possible image quality in all possible conditions. The lens mount is made from cast metal rather than plastic like many of the cheaper fisheye lenses that can warp in shape and end up causing issues with the mount on your a6000 too. Thankfully, due to using cast metal, the mount on the Rokinon 8mm will hold its shape and not cause you any problems with your mount on your actual camera body either.

Our Verdict

That brings our article going over what we feel is the best fisheye lens for Sony a6000 cameras to a close. We really do feel that the Rokinon 8mm F2.8 is the best option available at the time of writing and with its excellent performance and large customer base, we doubt that this is going to change anytime soon. There are a ton of  dedicated reviews of the lens online that have been posted by independent photographers that you can read if you want some third-party opinions on it too.

As we said back at the start of the article though, if you are on a tight budget then the Meike 6.5 mm f/2.0 can perform well and capture some solid fisheye photographs from your Sony a6000. It is a much cheaper option but like we said, it can have some issues with chromatic aberration as well as a few other things too. The Meike 6.5 mm also has a few independent reviews online where you can get some independent insight into the performance of the lens too.

The Best Vlogging Lens For Canon M50 Cameras! https://gimbalgarage.com/vlogging-lens-for-canon-m50/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=vlogging-lens-for-canon-m50 Fri, 29 Nov 2019 01:10:27 +0000 https://gimbalgarage.com/?p=2543 The Canon G7X has been one of the main, go-to entry-level vlogging cameras since its release but due to being a point and shoot camera, it had one major weakness, you couldn’t change the lens on the camera to meet your needs. Thankfully, Canon identified the gap in the market between the G7X and their DSLR cameras and decided to develop the Canon m50 to fill the void. With the m50 offering the same great quality that the G7X does with a number of other benefits including the ability to switch your lenses out as required, it is no surprise that the m50 has managed to become one of the most popular vlogging cameras on the market.

Due to the m50 having such a large customer base, we are always seeing a number of people reaching out and asking for advice for various accessories for various tasks for the camera. With more and more people using the Canon m50 for vlogging, we have noticed a steady increase in the number of people reaching out and asking for advice on what we feel the best vlogging lens for Canon m50 cameras on the market is.

As we love the vlogging capabilities of the m50, we have decided to make vlogging lenses the focus of today’s article and we have settled on three solid options for a feature. All three of the lenses have the Canon EF-M mount so will attach directly to your Canon m50 without needed a converter or adapter. Additionally, all three of the featured lenses have a number of vloggers using them as well as their own specific niche where they can be dominant.

That said though, out of the three featured lenses we do feel that the Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 is probably the best vlogging lens for Canon m50 cameras overall and will be the best option for most of our readers. That said though, we have our comparison table below going over our three featured lenses with a short overview of each option below. After that, we will be taking a more detail look at the Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 as we feel it will be the best vlogging option for the majority of our readers.

As you can see from our comparison table above, the Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 is our primary recommendation for your Canon m50 is you are looking to add a vlogging lens to your camera accessories. Its wide-angle focal length is perfect for the vast majority of vlogging tasks and it can deliver some outstandingly sharp image quality.

Both the autofocus and build in image stabilization help to push it to the front of the pack as both as great for excellent features to have in a vlogging camera. The autofocus ensures that your Canon m50 is getting the best possible footage of your face while vlogging and the image stabilization does its best to keep your footage as smooth as possible when in use.

As you would expect from a premium level camera lens, the Canon EF-M 11-22mm is the most expensive of our featured lenses but in our opinion, it is definitely the best option available. Since its release onto the market, the lens has managed to earn itself an outstanding reputation that just keeps on getting better and better too.

Next up we have the Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 that is a popular option as it is one of the kit lenses available in most of the Canon m50 bundles meaning many people already have access to it. Unfortunately, if you purchase the camera only package for your m50 then you will have to pay full price for the Canon EF-M 15-45mm and for what you actually get, it is a pretty pricey lens.

Although it does offer some excellent autofocus and image stabilization as standard, the 15mm minimum focal length is not the best for traditional vlogging while talking into your camera. On the flip side of this though, the 45mm maximum focal length can help you get some decent b-roll to help supplement your vlog footage but other lenses can be used for this too.

That said though, the Canon EF-M 15-45mm is a pretty popular lens that has managed to earn itself a solid reputation amongst the community and depending on your vlogging style, you could argue that this could be the lens for you although we do still feel that the Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 covered above is a better overall option.

The final option is our more budget-friendly, cheap vlogging lens for the Canon m50, the Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 and although it has a decent focal length and image quality for vlogging with your camera for its price tag, the lack of image stabilization really can hurt your overall image quality if you are planning to vlog while moving.

On the flip side of this though, if you are beauty vlogger or in some other vlogging niche where you will be sat still in front of your camera while it mounted on a tripod then this is not an issue. This along with its cheaper price tag is one of the main reasons that the Canon EF-M 22mm has become so popular within the community and managed to earn itself such a good reputation.

That said though if you are in a vlogging niche where you will be moving around while holding your m50 on a regular basis then the lack of image stabilization really holds it back. It will probably be cheaper to just purchase the Canon EF-M 11-22mm rather than purchase a suitable gimbal stabilizer to offset the movement while vlogging.

For the rest of the article, we are going to be focusing on the Canon EF-M 11-22mm and taking a more in-depth look at the lens as it is our primary lens recommendation for vlogging with the Canon m50. Although we will be mentioning the other two lenses now and then, we will not be spending much more time on them.

Performance And Functionality

When it comes to performance and functionality, the Canon EF-M 11-22mm offers everything you need in a vlogging lens and what’s more, mounts directly to your Canon m50 without the need for any third-party converters or mounts. Not only does this remove the potential additional cost of a converter but can also help to keep your image quality as crisp as possible depending on the type of converter needed.

In our opinion, being able to select an angle as 11mm on your lens for vlogging offers some great advantages and allows you to get right up and close to your Canon m50 while vlogging while still having plenty of your background in the frame. Depending on your vlogging location you can zoom our towards to the 22mm range or use it to capture landscape and b-roll if you are in a niche that requires it. The f/4 to f/5.6 amateur on the lens should be ideal for most vlogging situations and ensure that you have all the lighting you need to ensure that your video footage is bright and clear too.

With a minimum focusing distance of only half a foot or 0.15 meters, the Canon EF-M 11-22mm is ideal for holding up to talk into while vlogging too. The minimum focus distance is plenty for this type of vlogging and the autofocus technology on the lens will then kick in and ensure that your face is always in focus while the image stabilization helps keep your video footage smooth while moving too.

Unlike a small number of other EF-M lenses, the Canon EF-M 11-22mm is free from the chromatic aberration issues that can have a negative effect on your image quality too. As you probably know, the vlogging space is very competitive and having the best possible image quality going for your vlogs can help your content stand out from the content of your competition too.

User Interface And Control System

As you would expect from any modern Canon lens, the control system on the Canon EF-M 11-22mm is as straight forward and user-friendly as possible making your life as easy as possible. This is probably as close to a plug and plays lens that you are going to get for the m50 with a focal length ideal for vlogging with build-in image stabilization too. Depending on the specifics of what you are doing, you can pretty much just mount the lens to your m50 and you are good to go.

The manual focus ring on the lens is very responsive and smooth to turn if you want to take manual control over the focusing on the lens. Additionally, the manual focus ring has just enough resistance on it to allow you to accurately rotate it as required without accidentally over-rotating and wasting time. Although this is a common feature on the modern Canon lenses, we just wanted to make our readers aware of it.

As we have touched on earlier in the article, the Canon autofocus system on the Canon EF-M 11-22mm is second to none at the time of writing and does an excellent job of keeping you in focus if you are vlogging. Now, if you are in a static location sitting in one place with your m50 mounted to a tripod then this may not be too useful but if you walk or move around while vlogging then it really is a godsend.

As the Canon m50 is more of an entry-level/first update towards an intermediate level vlogging camera many of the vloggers who use it may never have used a mountable lens or an autofocus system before. Thankfully, Canon has made the system on the Canon EF-M 11-22mm as easy to use as possible and it is literally just one button and you are good to go.

All in all, Canon really have managed to do an excellent job with the ease of use of the lens and ensuring that it is as easy to use as possible so even an entry-level vlogger can take it out of the box, mount it to their m50, and be good to go and capture some excellent image quality.

Build Quality And Design

As you can guess, the build quality of the lens is outstanding and one of the best of all the Canon EF-M lenses available at the time of writing. One of the main drawbacks of the Canon EF-M 15-45mm is that it has a lower build quality than the Canon EF-M 11-22mm with a fair amount of plastic used in its construction that can lead to damage.

If you are a travel vlogger or involved in any other vlogging niche where you will be traveling on a regular basis then the robust build quality of the Canon EF-M 11-22mm offers you some peace of mind that your lens won’t be broken from any bumps or knocks it has sustained while in transit. Additionally, as it comes in at only 220 grams or so and is around 60.9 x 58.2mm in size, the lens is also very easy to pack in your luggage without taking up much space or size too.

The element construction for the lens is excellent with twelve elements being divided up into nine different groups that all work perfectly together when capturing photographs or video footage. The lens aperture is made up of seven individual blades that are easy to control and have been designed to help deliver some beautiful backgrounds while recording with the lens too.

The final point that we want to make about the Canon EF-M 11-22mm is that it comes with a 55mm lens thread as standard and we would highly recommend that you pick up a decent UV lens filter to add that additional layer of protection for the lenses forward element while in use or in transit. Additionally, as the 55mm lens thread is a popular option there are plenty of filters available that you can mount to your lens during use to further customize your image quality depending on what you need.

Our Verdict

That brings our article covering what we feel is the best vlogging lens for Canon m50 cameras to a close. We hope that we have done a decent job of explaining why we feel that the Canon EF-M 11-22mm should be your primary consideration and how it can make an excellent addition to your vlogging camera accessories. If you are yet to make your mind up then you are able to read some third-party reviews of the lens left by independent vloggers, videographers, and photographers that offer some great insight into the performance of the lens.

The Best Macro Lens For Canon M50 Cameras! https://gimbalgarage.com/macro-lens-for-canon-m50/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=macro-lens-for-canon-m50 Wed, 27 Nov 2019 18:59:50 +0000 https://gimbalgarage.com/?p=2491 With the Canon G7X being one of the most popular vlogging cameras of all time, the Canon m50 was almost guaranteed to be a big hit with a large number of vloggers upgrading from the G7X to the m50 when it was released due to it offering the ability to allow you to change your lenses. In addition to this, the excellent photograph image quality and great videography performance have ensured that the Canon m50 has quickly won a large share of the market that keeps on growing with each passing month.

Due to this, we are constantly seeing people reaching out and asking for advice on a large number of different accessories for the m50 but one question that we have seen asked over and over again is based around the best macro lens for Canon m50 cameras on the market right now. We feel that this is due to the m50 not using the standard Canon lens mount but the M series mount.

Thankfully though, the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 is an excellent little macro lens that will natively mount directly to your Canon m50 without you have to purchase any additional lens converters or mounts. We have seen a large number of photographers instantly disregard the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 as a macro lens since its release but it has managed to earn itself a great reputation amongst the macro community that just keeps getting better due to its excellent performance.

Due to this, we would highly recommend that any of our readers who own the Canon m50 and are in the market for a solid little macro photography lens seriously consider the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5. It can offer you some excellent image quality right out the box, is very easy to use, and comes with a very fair price tag when you consider what you are actually getting for your money when you purchase it.

Performance And Functionality

As you would expect from a modern Canon camera lens, the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 offers some excellent performance and functionality for its price tag and is one of the main reasons it is held in such high regard with the community. It has been designed from the very start to be a great little macro lens that is ideal for both entry-level and advanced macro photographers. We are pleased to say that in our opinion, and judging by the reputation of the lens, Canon has managed to reach their goal and produce a lens that can capture incredible detail in your macro photographs.

The lens allows you to capture dew on a flower, the color of an eye, or the detail in a colorful feather with outstanding image quality all from your Canon m50. This is partly due to the built-in macro lite technology that automatically supplies your subject with the light needed to help get the best image quality possible with an excellent sense of depth and dimension.

The macro lite technology also helps you to get that hard to capture detail and ensure that your macro photographs are bright, vibrant and bold and all of this transfers over very well to social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest. If you are trying to build up a social following then showing off your macro work in all of its glory on your social media profiles is going to be essential and the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 helps you do this.

The lens also comes with Canons latest autofocus technology as standard too that is fully capable of focusing at infinity in regular shooting as well as macro shooting. On top of this, you are also able to enhance up to 1.2 x regular magnification via the lens to add that extra layer of detail if you are trying to capture something as small and detailed as an insect with ease.

The autofocus is powered by a next-generation STM stepping motor that is as close to silent as possible for the technology available right now. This allows you to get up close and personal to insects and other small animals without the noise of your autofocus motor scaring them off when it kicks in. Additionally, Canons STM motors are extremely smooth ensuring that you get a nice gradual autofocus on your subject making your life as easy as possible when using the lens with your Canon m50.

As you would expect from a modern macro photography lens, the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 also comes with some excellent hybrid image stabilization built-in. This helps to drastically reduce the effects of camera shake on your macro photographs to help you actually enjoy capturing handheld photographs with your m50 rather than having to worry about every small movement you make.

When you factor all of this in, as well as the fact that the lens will natively mount directly to your Canon m50 without needing a convertor, it is not surprising that the lens has proven to be such a big hit with the community. Independent photographers who have chosen to use the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 as their go-to macro lens of choice have also posted a number of excellent reviews online for the lens that you can read for some additional, third-party insight into the level of performance that it offers.

User Interface And Control System

Canon have perfected the interface for their lenses and the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 helps to take this one step further. The manual focus ring on the lens is extremely easy to rotate as required to allow you to tweak the focus of your image before capturing the photograph. The ring rotates extremely smoothly without any jumps or distortion while also having just enough resistance when turning to allow you to adjust it accurately.

The macro lite button seen to the bottom left of the image above is also very easy to press to activate the tech at a moment’s notice if needed. This ensures that you are able to keep your eye against the viewfinder of your Canon m50 to ensure your subject is in focus while activating the macro lite technology to improve your overall image quality.

We have already touched on the autofocus technology on the lens earlier in the article as well as how effective and silent its STM stepping motors is too. As we mentioned earlier in the article, the autofocus motor is close to silent when adjusting your focus levels too so if you are using the lens while vlogging or capturing video footage the auto adjustments of the motor will not contaminate your audio track when using the onboard mic on your m50.

As the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 is such a simple little lens, there really is not much else to say about its interface. Everything is very straight forward and anything that can be used to interface with the lens to manipulate your image quality is easy and smooth. We are pleased to be able to say that Canon have managed to nail it again and produce one of the easiest lens control systems that we have seen.

Build Quality And Design

Canon are known for their excellent build quality and design of their lens range and in addition to their excellent performance, the solid build quality is one of the reasons that the community is willing to pay more than the third-party levels available. The Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 has an excellent build quality and is extremely robust as well as relatively lightweight for the image quality that it can provide for your macro photography.

At the time of its release, the lens was actually the listest lens with autofocus in the world offering a great advantage for any of our Canon m50 owning readers who are into travel vlogging. The compact design and light weight make it extremely easy to store the lens in your kit bag with ease and without having to risk going over your luggage allowance.

The anti-scratch glass on the lens also ensures that it can easily take and bumps or knocks during use as many a macro photographer has accidentally gotten a little too close during use and bumped their lens. Depending on what you are doing with your m50, you can counter this risk by mounting a a decent UV filter to the lens to help add that extra layer of protection.

Speaking of using filters with your lens, the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 comes with a 43mm lens filter thread as standard. As the 43mm lens filter thread size is very popular, there are a ton of compatible UV, CPL, ND, and other lens filters available that will mount directly to the lens with ease. If you are considering adding some lens filters to your camera accessories for your m50 then we would highly recommend the Gobe filter range.

The final point that we want to raise about the build quality of the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 is that its bayonet connector is solid. It can take a ton of punishment without breaking or taking damage allowing you to quickly and easily mount and unmount the lens from your Canon m50 as required. If you are planning on using your Canon m50 in different niches this allows you to quickly switch to the relevant lens for your task at hand without having any problems.

All in all, Canon has stuck to their reputation of having the best build quality going for their lenses making Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 and extremely robust bit of kit. With so many m50 owners traveling around on a regular basis, this offers you peace of mind that your lens will be fine while in transit to various locations without breaking from any bumps or knocks.
